Mysterious military men and midfielders
Friday 12th September 2008, 3:00PM BST.
IT is amazing how many little pieces of the past can be unearthed simply by emptying a long forgotten drawer.
C G Soudain, of Mont Les Vaux, has sent in a selection of some he found recently in the hope that they will spur memories for some readers. Only one of the men in the photographs is known to him and that is a Jack Gibbs, his brother-in-law, who appears in one of the footballing photographs (fourth from the right wearing a cap) and in uniform (back row, left).
Another of the pictures shows a woman standing in a country lane. Although it appears to be a bright day she does seem to be wrapped up against the cold.
The final two pictures show men in their uniforms, one of whom is standing in front of a machine gun. Nothing is known of this chap but the picture appears to have been the work of photographer JR Bridgman of Banbury, whose name is printed on the mount.
If anyone can throw any light on the pictures, they are asked to e-mail features@jerseyeveningpost.com, or use the comment box below.
