Despite gales force winds the Jersey Spartans runner finished the two-lap course of the Island in 1.23.38 hours. Ahier, who was also the first Jersey runner to complete last year’s Jersey marathon in 2.56.13 hours, beat 56 runners to the finish line.

He said: ‘I decided to do the Alderney half as preparation for the Jersey marathon, but I’ve been unable to fully recover from a knee injury I picked up doing the London marathon in April, so I’ve had to ditch Jersey.

‘Alderney was tough with strong winds, but I did manage to break the course record, which was previously set by John Coote.’
