THE final Jersey Motor Cycle & Light Car Club sprint of the year was an explosive affair with five records falling over the quarter-mile course on the Five Mile Road.

A strong tail wind certainly helped, with some other records being unofficially broken in the practice runs. The first record was claimed by Ian Hunt in the post historic car class, where he lowered his own 2005 mark by two tenths of a second in his big 6.1 litre Jaguar E type, then clocking 13.12 on his penultimate run.
Veteran

James Patterson kept on lowering his own one-year-old record in the 1,401 to 1,600 cc rally card class, starting with a 14.80 sec run – an improvement of nine one-hundreths of a second. Despite a break for rain, Patterson, in his beatifully prepared Rover Metro, finished with the new record at 14.69.

Veteran campaigner Mick Lancashire lowered his Production Sports Car record of 2006. He hurtled his vivid yellow Avon Sprint, loosely based on a Caterham 7, forward to improve the time to 11.98 – an improvement of almost a second. The only bike record to go was lowered throughout the day by Simon Williams (pictured) on his big 1,000 cc Rickman Kawasaki in the post historic bike class for bikes up to 1979.
