Crenan has edge in quality CI final

ROYAL Jersey Golf Club’s Sam Crenan continued his fine form to win the Channel Islands under-18s’ Junior Inter-Insular Challenge Trophy at Grouville on Sunday.
Crenan defeated Guernsey’s Tom Le Huray two-up in a quality final where the difference between the players was on the greens as 17-year-old Crenan sank a couple of monster putts while 18-year-old Le Huray had the misfortune to narrowly miss while three times he lipped putts out.
Crenan’s victory was his third over Le Huray this year as the Jersey and Guernsey junior champions were also drawn together in the junior and senior inter-insulars. Crenan said: ‘I’m delighted to have won, tee to green I was happy and I sank some good putts. I was relaxed and getting a birdie on the first hole helped my confidence.
‘I don’t think I was at my best over the first five holes but it came together well after that. Tom was a bit unlucky in places and had he sank just a couple of putts it could well have been a different result.’
