Gardener comes out of the shed

AFTER 50 years in the Central Market, the Garden Shed is closing down.
The garden centre, owned by Louise Noel, is being replaced by a card shop after she decided to call time on her 12-year ownership.
A number of factors played a part in her decision, including the seven-working-day weeks and the growing cost of maintaining her greenhouse. She was also recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer. ‘It made me put everything in perspective and I decided I needed some time off,’ she said.
However, in what she describes as ‘probably one of the shortest retirements on record’, within three days of retiring on 30 September, she will begin ‘very part-time’ work at Le Quesne’s Nurseries and Garden Centre.
