Record number for Senatorial election

0589165_cropped.jpgA RECORD number of candidates have declared for the Senatorial election to be held next month.

There were two surprise candidates at last night’s nomination meeting at the Town Hall – St Saviour Deputy Alan Breckon and Air Display organiser Mike Higgins – bringing the total number to 21.

They are sitting States Members Senators Philip Ozouf, Paul Routier and Mike Vibert; Deputies Alan Breckon, Sarah Ferguson, Alan Maclean, Geoff Southern and Peter Troy; and Mark Forskitt, Nick Le Cornu, Ian Le Marquand, Cliff Le Clercq, Jeremy Maςon, Nick Palmer, Michael Pashley, Chris Perkins, Trevor Pitman, Montford Tadier, Adrian Walsh, Daniel Wimberley and Mike Higgins.

    Let’s just hope there are enough quality newcomers to replace the disastrous people that we have presently.

    Plenty of choice there, 21 candidates for 6 seats.

    However 6 Senators and 3 Constables are not facing election.
    Of the remaining 9 Constables maybe one or two will face a contested election.
    The failures in the Senatorial race can try again in the Deputies’ race in November.
    And a lot of the country Deputies will not even face an election!

    It will return a house that has the same old faces yet again and it will be ‘fit for purpose’ in so far as it will elect Terry le Sueur as Chief Minister.
