A FTSE 100 company is backing the development of tidal power around Sark.
UK-based utility Airtricity, which is part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group, has joined forces with Sark Renewable Energy in a bid to harness marine energy in Channel Islands waters.
The Scottish and Southern Energy Group is currently developing the world’s largest offshore wind farm at Greater Gabbard on the Suffolk coast.
Airtricity’s marine development manager, John Thouless, said: ‘Airtricity see the great potential for developing tidal power in Sark waters and are delighted to have joined up with a locally based company which has taken a lead in this field. We look forward to hearing from the Chief Pleas of Sark on our proposal and to working with the local community.
