Election for Constable: St Lawrence
Thursday 18th September 2008, 2:56PM BST.
TWO high-profile community figures will go head-to-head to fill the Constable’s seat in St Lawrence.
Deputy Deidre Mezbourian and Chef de Police Tim Tindall both declared themselves candidates at the parish hall yesterday.
Winston Le Brun, who proposed Deputy Mezbourian, said that filling the seat of retiring St Lawrence Constable Geoffrey Fisher was no easy task. He said that parishioners wanted individuality and wanted the Constable to bring his or her qualities to the fore. He said that the Deputy was an ideal candidate because she had already served the parish as a Constable’s officer and Vingtenier.
And, as Deputy of St Lawrence, she had covered many roles including scrutiny chairperson and twice represented Jersey as a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. Mr Le Brun said that the candidate had the whole-hearted support of her loving husband David, grown-up daughter Amber and was prepared to be the parish’s team captain and offer her services as Constable. He added that he had confidence that his candidate filled the criteria with an impeccable curriculum vitae.
Following Mr Le Brun’s speech, Sue Hardy addressed the meeting to formally propose Tim Tindall, who had previously not declared his intention to stand so that he could continue his work as Chef de Police. The meeting heard that Mr Tindall had worked in the finance industry for 20 years, spending seven of those working for Barclays International.
He also worked for his family’s insurance business and now runs his own financial management services company.
The proposer said that 35-year-old Mr Tindall was a family man who had the full support of his wife Julie, who is a trademark expert. The parishioners heard that Mr Tindall planned making no major changes – the focus being on just more of the same, with good management being the key. He is a man who recognises that there are issues that need to be addressed, including the need for more sheltered housing.
The proposer said that Mr Tindall was a man of ability and enthusiasm who was an ideal person to become the Constable of St Lawrence.
