You’ve got it just right on tourism

From Heather McErlane.
HAVING recently visited the Island for the first time in five years, I had to write and pass on accolades to all who look after its well-being.

I am a Jersey girl who left the Island in the 1980s, and when I visited five years ago I was very sad to see how dejected everyone was and how there was a lack of appeal for visitors.

This time, however, I have been pleasantly surprised, and once again it looks as though tourism is welcomed. From the cleanliness of the streets to the clean beaches, pleasant and helpful staff and good value for money in restaurants, I congratulate one and all.

Once again you have an island to be proud of, including the wonderful innovations and attractions along the Esplanade and harbour – fantastic!

I have just one observation, which is echoed by many in England: your hotels are far too expensive. If you want tourists to spend longer than a weekend, take a gamble, someone, and drop the price a little. Now is the time to do it – and you will have all the visitors you want.

Best wishes for a terrific season next year.
