Time for tea at Belmont
Friday 19th September 2008, 3:00PM BST.
A TEA party to celebrate 80 years of worship is taking place at Belmont Hall tomorrow.
Islanders are invited to join the celebrations from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm at Belmont Hall, 14 Belmont Road, to celebrate the hall’s 80th anniversary and to learn more about the history of the hall.
Organiser Eric Dolan said: ‘We are very unusual in that many religious meeting places were forced to suspend worship for the duration of the Second World War, yet due to the independence we have from all other Christian organisations, meetings continued to be held at Belmont Hall throughout these years. We have invited about 100 people who have been with the hall and others and we have sent out 500 flyers.’
In the hall there will be a lot of memorabilia on display relating to the last 80 years of Christian worship and guest speaker, UK missionary Robert Plant is visiting from Harrogate to talk about the anniversary of the hall. Next week four seminars by Ian Jackson on biblical prophecy relating to the past, the present and the future will take place at Belmont Hall.
