Can a car park be beautiful? This one is!
Saturday 20th September 2008, 10:00AM BST.
From Joy Thompson.
LOOKING down from the Jersey Eye recently, I saw that the West Park area was bustling with people enjoying the open spaces.
The only blight on the afternoon was seeing the site notice board plonked in the midst of it all reminding us of the awful fate likely to befall the Esplanade car park, which is a useful and much-needed open space that is pleasant to use.
If any car park might be termed ‘beautiful’, then that is the one. It should be left alone. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a public rally or petition against building on it, because everyone I speak to like using it and don’t want to see it go.
The gardens are a well-established refuge for birds, and I have also seen hedgehogs there, while friends have seen rabbits. It should not have an underground road ploughed through it, nor should it be built upon. I hope some of our new politicians in October will take note.

I don’t want it built on either Mrs Thompson, particularly as the new “Finance District” plans do not make sufficient provision to replace the parking spaces which are going to be lost if it is developed. Commuters are really going to struggle if we lose the Esplanade car park and yes,it would be a shame to lose the established trees and shrubs.
