Chris Voisin
Wednesday 24th September 2008, 3:00PM BST.
MARRIED to a Kiwi and loving mountains and adventure, it was not difficult for Chris Voisin to make the decision to emigrate from Jersey ten years ago.
He lives with his wife Karen and family in Christchurch, but has never stopped appreciating what Jersey has to offer and intends to make return visits every year in future.
His siblings, Simon, Paul, Cath and Liz, all live in the Island, the family having been brought up in St Peter.
He attended St Peter’s School and De La Salle College before leaving to work for builder George Langlois and then in insurance for 20 years, mostly at Hepburns.
He is also a keen musician and in Jersey played in bands Memory Lane and Katch – being the resident band at Les Arches nightclub for three years and once also appearing on the television show Seaside Special.
At the age of 25, a round-the-world trip resulted in a chance meeting with the woman who some years later would become his wife. She is from Christchurch and now works as a teacher at a special needs school.
The couple lived in Jersey for ten years, but with Karen having family in New Zealand and Chris keen for adventure and ‘to play with property, climb mountains and have an exciting lifestyle’, they moved with their three young children to Karen’s home city.
They settled in without any problems and their children, Kelsey (17), Lewis (15) and Samuel (13) all enjoy the lifestype and the sport.
Chris still plays his music, performing in a two-piece band, and for six or seven years was involved in both playing and teaching soccer. He has also achieved his ambition of climbing mountains.
He describes himself as an entrepreneur, involved in property, and while he loves his life in New Zealand, the mountains and dramatic landscape, he has always kept in touch with home
Nearing the age of 50, he intends to visit every year in the future to see family and friends, enjoy the cosmopolitan mix, the lushness of the countrysde, the granite and the closeness to France.
