Skinner chases dream

JERSEY pro longboarder Ben Skinner says he intends to fulfil a career dream and return home from surfing’s ultimate competition as a new world champion.
The 23-year-old has just been named as part of the British Surfing Team who will travel to Portugal’s Costa de Caparica next month for the 2008 ISA World Surfing Championships.
Skinner was edged out of pole position in the longboard final at the 2006 event in California, finishing just .34 of a point behind six-time South African champion Matthew Moir.
Yet the former Victoria College student, who now lives in Newquay, takes two years of hard training and a haul of recent contest wins into this next event and is more than confident he can take the title this year.
