Wheway woes a boost for Kennedy

00248403_cropped.jpgTHE postponement of this Saturday’s Wheway Cup quarter finals in Jersey means Island manager Dave Kennedy now has a full complement of players to choose from for Jersey’s match against the Southern Amateur League.

The Wheway games between St Paul’s and North and Grouville and AFC St Martin’s were called off yesterday as a result of Condor Ferries announcing changes to their sailing schedule because of engine problems. The matches have been rescheduled for Saturday 11 October.

The postponements are a blessing in disguise for Island manager Kennedy (pictured) as he has added St Paul’s trio Andrew Bird, Stuart André and Mark Lucas to his squad for Saturday evening’s mouth-watering game against England’s representatives in the UEFA Regions Cup, which is due to start next month.

Kennedy said: ‘Originally I had a small squad because of injuries but the cup games being off now has helped out. Three will join us from St Paul’s while there is no-one from Grouville as Russell Le Feuvre has an Achilles injury. ‘Mark Brown is extremely doubtful after turning his ankle at work on Tuesday while Dave Le Roux is definitely out because of a hamstring injury.’
