Jersey make most of Amateur errors
Monday 29th September 2008, 2:58PM BST.
JERSEY capitalised on two schoolboy errors to beat the Southern Amateur Football League 2-0 in front of a crowd approaching 400 at Springfield on Saturday evening.
England’s amateur champions, who represent the Football Association in the UEFA Regions’ Cup in Italy next month after winning the National League System Cup last May, were fortunate the defeat was not heavier as young Jack Boyle, who was outstanding, twice hit their woodwork in the second half.
It was a victory Jersey thoroughly deserved; they had a good shape and played some excellent football while the visitors, who wore the England kit, had slightly the better of the exchanges after the break but they failed to test Jersey’s goalkeeper.
Jersey manager Dave Kennedy said: ‘They were two sloppy goals to concede but I thought it was in line with the way the game was going because we were playing really well at the time. Sometimes when you’re on top your luck goes for you and that’s what happened.’
