Corbière Lighthouse open day
Wednesday 1st October 2008, 2:57PM BST.
ISLANDERS and tourists got a last opportunity of the summer to have a nose around one of Jersey’s most iconic buildings at the weekend.
Corbière Lighthouse is one of the most photographed locations in the Island, but not that many people have been inside. On Sunday a number of groups were escorted to the famous landmark by Jersey Harbours, Blue Badge Guide Sue Hardy and writer and naturalist Pete Double.
Inside they got to see the lighthouse’s original 19th-century equipment, polished by caretaker Dave Turner, which has been described by Trinity House as one of the finest in the British Isles.
Over the past four years the trips to the lighthouse have raised more than £4,000 for the RNLI, and have increased general awareness of the service provided by lifeboat crews and of the dangers of local waters.
