Jersey batsmen find the pitch far from friendly …
Wednesday 1st October 2008, 2:59PM BST.
JERSEY’S cricketers were struggling at 70 for seven today against Fiji in Tanzania in a warm up match before the World Cricket League Division IV tournament starts on Saturday.
Jersey failed to capitalise on a 40-run opening partnership between Peter Gough and Steve Carlyon as they fell victims to several leg before wicket decisions on a pitch with variable bounce.
Jersey manager Chris Minty said: ‘The pitch is interesting; we did not know what to expect and now we’ve found out – the outfield is rough and there is variable bounce on the wicket.
‘Peter and Steve got us off to a typical start with a lot of quick singles but a combination of poor shots against the variable bounce and lbw decisions that could have gone either way has resulted in us being in the position we now find ourselves in after 25 overs.
