Hospitality group should pay half air display costs
Thursday 2nd October 2008, 2:58PM BST.
From John Dix.
THE president of the Jersey Hospitality Association wrote an excellent response to my letter about a way of funding the International Air Display and possibly the Battle of Flowers.
The JHA is to be congratulated on its magnificent support for the Air Display in the sum of £12,000, but therein lies the problem.
With an annual cost of the display running to around £250,000, the JHA’s contribution runs to less than 5% of the cost. My suggested levies would bring their contribution to around 50% of the cost, thus guaranteeing the event.
If those who stand to gain from an event are not prepared to provide serious support, what credibility can they expect to have in requesting support from other businesses or the States for promoting events which can bring only rewards to their members?
