Philanthropist to continue his £100 gift to the over-70s
Saturday 4th October 2008, 9:59AM BST.
EVERY Islander over the age of 70 will again receive an early £100 Christmas gift from property developer David Kirch.
It will be the third year in succession that the multi-millionaire philanthropist will hand out about £1 million in shopping vouchers to the Island’s elderly residents. Mr Kirch, who is president of the Age Concern charity, said that it had been a difficult year for him from a business perspective but that he had decided to continue his annual gift.
The news has been hailed as ‘even more welcome’ than in the last couple of years by the chairman of Age Concern, Daphne Minihane. ‘With the rising food and fuel prices, this is fantastic news,’ said Mrs Minihane. ‘Pensioners may even be able to splash out a little on themselves this year. People forget that pensioners have children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren to buy for at Christmas.’
Mrs Minihane added that she still cannot find out how much milk is going to increase to in stores from Monday after the announcement that Jersey Dairy was putting 5p on the wholesale price. ‘We have just been given notice of a big increase in coal and we have a bread price rise to follow later this month. Mr Kirch’s announcement could not have come at a better time for pensioners,’ she said.

What a generous man, my mother is 80 and a £100

this year with huge increases in fuel and food.
Thank you Mr Kirch your gift brings alot of pleasure to the elderly.

A true gent, and puts our other rich “residents” to shame…..as the saying goes, you cant take it with you and what a wonderful gift this man has made to his fellow islanders.

Decency and genuine concern for others well being is very rare in this island and this man puts a lot of high net worth selfish individuals to shame (i hope) Mr Kirch could teach a few invaluable lessons to the greedy about the needy…

Mr Kirch could teach a let of selfish greedy about the needy (lets not forget a lot of rich are only high net worth are only high net worth financially and nothing else…)Thank you for the shining example that other rich individuals should be ashamed of themselves for…….

Once again Mr Kirch has generously donated to pensioners on this island. What a truely generous man he is. It is a pity our some of our states members and rich residents don’t take a leaf out of his book and try to care for those less fortunate on the island!

Mr Kirch demonstration of selfless generosity shout be recognized in some appropriate way.
The problem is how to recognise the altruistic without undermining the original altruistic act?
