Good start to vital clash

jersey-joy_cropped.jpgJERSEY wicket-keeper Matt Hanley marked his full Island début in Tanzania with a catch this morning in a vital game if Jersey is to remain in the World League Division IV.

Hanley (19) made the catch as Italy were 97 for four wickets when rain halted play after 28.3 overs. Italy won the toss and decided to bat at the Leaders Club, Kinondoni, where Jersey had to make a late change to their starting line-up because of illness to Jonny Gough. At the time of the rain interruption Matt Hague was also off the field suffering with a back problem.

Jersey manager Chris Minty, whose team lost their opening two matches against Tanzania and Afghanistan, said: ‘We are doing okay, the bowling and fielding is good again. Ryan Driver has taken one wicket and Tony Carlyon two while Tony was involved in a run out as well following a good piece of fielding from Matt Hague. Matt [Hanley] took a good catch standing up, yes we are doing well and hopefully we can go on and win this game.’

Today’s game is a must-win match for Jersey as they look to consolidate their World League Division IV status.
