The art of politics
Tuesday 7th October 2008, 2:58PM BST.
THE hidden artistic talents of some of the Island’s States Members have been unearthed, thanks to Isabella Lewis. She has persuaded them to show off their creative side by painting a canvas and she now hopes to auction them off for Jersey Hospice. ‘I’ve had a couple of friends who have spent their last days in the care of Hospice and I wanted to give something back to the charity,’ said Mrs Lewis.‘I invited the States Members to paint whatever was in their mind and some of them have really impressed me.’The open brief allowed for some interesting images to be produced, including Skate Park by Deputy Ben Fox, which depicts a fox skateboarding, and Deputy Celia Scott Warren’s Political Environment, which shows a large hand reaching out towards a bonfire on the beach. Many chose to portray the Island in their picture – Senator Jim Perchard recreating Archirondel, St Ouen Constable Ken Vibert choosing Grosnez, and St Brelade Constable Mike Jackson taking on St Aubin’s Fort. Others to pick up a paintbrush in the name of charity include Senators Paul Routier, Ben Shenton and Len Norman, and Deputies Guy de Faye, Kevin Lewis (Isabella’s husband), Anne Pryke, Deidre Mezbourian and Jacqui Huet.• Anyone interested in bidding should leave a voicemail message on 07700 354297.

BIRD WATCH 2012

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.
Nice one Len. The best of the lot in my humble opinion. It would be good to know the thoughts behind the painting but maybe that’s all part of the hidden talent. Setting sun, dead tree over a green hill, purple ruling colour backdrop, end of an era or the beginning of a new one?

Could you please tell me if the auction for the states members pictures is now closed? There was no information about this on the original article. If it is I haven’t seen a follow up article about it, was it a success or not?
Thanks
