Kirsten keen to carry on

Kirsten missed a players’ meeting following the Jersey Cricket Board’s third consecutive defeat – by 29 runs against Italy – which virtually relegates them back to Division V after just one tournament in the higher division, but Kirsten says he is keen to carry on.

Jersey lost a rain-affected match leaving them without a point in the division and now with only a slim mathematical chance of avoiding relegation. Speculation that Kirsten may have resigned yesterday was refuted by the former South Africa Test captain this morning.

Kirsten said: ‘Another defeat, yes, and obviously everyone is really disappointed. I respect that; it’s only natural.’
Meeting Asked if he was contemplating resigning after missing an after-match meeting yesterday, Kirsten said: ‘No, not at all. There were lots of meetings the day before and I did not attend yesterday because I was not feeling well.
‘One or two of the players asked for a meeting and it went ahead without me.
