You don’t have to use six votes

From Mary Osmond.
THE many letters in your columns regarding CET suggest that this is the burning issue at the moment.

But I think that a far more crucial concern for Jersey is the forthcoming Senatorial elections. Of the 21 candidates, only six can be successful; but after speaking to friends, I realise that, apart from a general apathy towards voting, as ‘nothing will change’, lots of voters think that they have to vote for six of the 21.

On the contrary, if only one or two candidates ‘float your boat’, then only vote for those candidates. The last Senatorial elections proved that last became first. So, in effect, the sixth person could have a small amount of votes and still become a Senator.

So use your votes wisely, and don’t succumb to the temptation to put a cross in six boxes if you don’t feel 100% about each cross you make. The consequences could be disastrous for us all.
