Airlines strike threat over ground staff pay
Friday 10th October 2008, 2:56PM BST.
AIRLINE handling staff at Servisair have voted to stage three 24-hour strikes later this month in a move that would almost certainly ground planes.
If the industrial action goes ahead, thousands of travellers face major disruption on Saturday 18, Tuesday 21 and Saturday 25 October.
The 35 or so workers are members of the Unite Union and overwhelmingly supported a ballot for strike action in a dispute with the company over their annual pay award.
However, a conciliation meeting has been scheduled for Monday at the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service which both the union and the company are due to attend. It is hoped that a resolution can be found which will result in the planned action being postponed.
