SOME of the Island’s top gymnasts are at risk of letting standards slip unless a dedicated training facility can be found.

That is the worry John Grady, president of the Jersey Special Gymnastics Club, is facing after losing a lot of space at his training ground at Mont à L’Abbé School. It is also a concern for the Jersey Gymnastics Club who have to drastically cut their winter training down due to demand for St John’s Recreation Centre.

The situation has prompted the two clubs to search for a permanent base together and they are therefore looking for a farm building, industrial unit, or land that can house a gymnastics centre with parking.

The pressure to find suitable accommodation is greater for the JSGC as Grady, who was head coach of the Great Britain artistic gymnastics squad for this year’s Special Olympics World Summer Games at which two Jersey gymnasts competed, says that if somewhere can’t be found it may force him to close or step down as coach.
