Drags on the run

IT was more Old Spice than Sporty Spice as a band of hairy Islanders charged through St Helier on Friday.
The 13 runners were taking part in the first charity Drag Race to raise money for local charity Victim Support, which provides counselling and assistance to the victims of crime.
Little Bo Beep lined up against a WPC and a bridegroom as they went under starter’s orders in the Royal Square at 5.30 pm to the astonishment of those enjoying after-work drinks. Just to add to the fun, the runners were given make-up to apply as they sprinted between the Square and Boots.
It was all the idea of Julie Cubbin, a volunteer at Victim Support. She said that the inaugural Drag Race had been so well received that she and her colleagues at Victim Support had decided to hold it again next year.
