Now it’s time to choose

THE Senatorial hustings came to an explosive finale in a packed Town Hall last night.
Around 300 voters and supporters packed into the hall as the hustings roadshow came to an end in the room where the 21 candidates were nominated 28 days ago. And despite going around the parishes, to a country side event and two ‘Meet the Candidates’ gatherings, the Senatorial hopefuls had left something in reserve.
St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft had to interrupt the meeting several times to tell the audience to stop heckling the three ministers and two assistant ministers on the platform, at one point threatening to have one audience member thrown out.
Tomorrow, up to 55,142 voters will go to the polls around the Island to choose six Senators to represent them for the next six years, in the first election since ministerial government began three years ago. And, for the first time, the election will also coincide with the elections for Constables in four parishes – St Clement, St Lawrence, St Mary and St Peter – and a referendum on whether the Island should move to Central European Time.
