Watersplash: Comments from public still welcome
Tuesday 14th October 2008, 2:55PM BST.
PLANS for a £10 million surfing centre at the Watersplash are being drawn up ‘with the desire to meet everyone’s expectations’, according to the owner, David Seymour.
He is still in the process of developing the plans with his architect before submitting a formal application to Planning next year. Mr Seymour said that although the main consultation period had ended he was still accepting any comments from the public.
In June the hotelier displayed new plans for the scheme, which included casual and fine dining restaurants, a surf shop, a small skateboarding bowl, a climbing wall for younger children, entertainment facilities and six surf lodges with a total of 24 beds for visitors.
‘It is still open to comment even though the main consultation period has closed,’ he said. ‘There is still a desire for us to meet everyone’s expectations. We have been working on this for four years and I cannot see a formal application going in this year.’

This would be fantastic if it gets approval..the waterspalsh means everything to alot of people especially the young.
My sons surfs and he has spent many weekends there and sees this an ideal opportunity to freshen the premises and give so much to the young people of Jersey, which is what they need. I do hope this goes ahead, it will bring so much pleasure.

The old splash was brilliant but it needs revamping and this is the way to do it. Brilliant that someone actually wants to invest in the island and provide for young people at last!

Well done Terry..the old splash I remember and it was truly brilliant, the young Jersey people deserve this and also all surfers young and old that love this place for what it is..

The Splash needs repainting yes- but to ruin the place with those plans is just horrendous. Having spoken to a good number of surfers down there it’s the last thing that many of the regulars want. Why on earth would there need to be a standing wave- there’s the real thing a few metres away, and yes it’s even surfable in winter with a good wetsuit- in fact it’s even better. Put it in St Helier and keep all the ‘wanabee’ surfers there and out of the way. This summer was packed enough in the water near the Splash-it was just pure dangerous on sunny days with the amount of incompetent people in the water.
The Seymours should be listening to the people that really use the area- not just a load of people who think it will be good for their kids- in other words a place they can dump them and not have to take responsibilty for them.
