A referendum they’ll ignore
Friday 17th October 2008, 3:00PM BST.

WELL, I see that CET has quite firmly been rejected by the electorate, some 70% or so not being in favour of the change. Mr Bale should please take note and let this be the end of his endless letters on the matter.
We can all therefore look forward to the extra hour of daylight in the evenings, as I have no doubt that, as with the introduction of GST, our great leaders will simply ignore the results of our first Islandwide referendum.

You are simply wrong. This gives them the opportunity to say they are doing what the majority of islanders wanted all along when they reject the idea. Its worked out perfectly for them.
On the otherhand had the majority voted yes, it is then that they would have had to reject the islanders first and probably last referendum.
