‘Rent-a-mob’ at the Town Hall election meeting

From Edward Trevor.
THE choices will have been made before you can publish this letter but I have to express my disgust at the ‘rent-a-mob’ who tried to destroy democracy at the Town Hall on Monday. I have been told that the same hooligans went to most of the hustings.

People can have their own views, may not agree with some of the candidates, but they should listen, consider and perhaps change their mind. I dropped one candidate from my list and added another as a direct result of what was said at this, the last hustings before the election.

The left and their allies don’t want to govern but wish to cause mayhem as it suits their personalities. Doubtless they will try again in the Deputies’ elections next month. Their behaviour shows how totally unsuitable they are for public office. To be a credible opposition one must be constructive – the current opposition and their supporters are certainly not that.

The quality of the majority of the ‘fresh faces’ seemed very poor, no policies were enunciated and they only attacked people who had merely done what they considered to be right for this Island.

When it comes to the Deputies’ elections I hope that should any unsuccessful candidates stand in these the behaviour of them and their cronies will be remembered and perhaps we won’t see them again – a pious hope!

I totally agree, I to attended the hustings and was appalled by the heckling from the back of the hall and I also heard the same about the same people going to every hustings. This is not the change of Government we want in this Island. It is an aggressive, undemocratic and bullying way to get votes. At least I could sigh with relief when the results came through and see that sensibility had taken precedent over stupidity on the day.
