00596101_cropped.jpgFIRST Tower United FC ladies won the Zenith Cup, for the second time, at Springfield last night with a 3-1 extra time victory over St John.

Louise Van Der Vliet fired Tower ahead with a powerful 25-yard strike, but Saints levelled in the 18th minute through Rachael Bowker following a goalmouth mêlée. Goalkeeper Stephanie Henwood kept Tower at bay with a string of excellent saves, one being exceptional, low to her right in the 90th minute to ensure extra time.

Jodie Botterill restored Tower’s lead with a ferocious shot from 15 yards and after substitute Marta Ascencao struck Tower’s crossbar with an awesome effort from 30 yards, Tower added a third on a far post through Van Der Vliet from close range.

Michelle Bichard, Kerry Sauvage and Van Der Vliet impressed for the winners and Pauline Smart and Beckie Darts likewise for the losers.
