‘Give us security,’ say boat owners
Saturday 18th October 2008, 9:56AM BST.
FURIOUS boat owners have called for increased security at Grève de Lecq after thieves stole hundreds of pounds worth of fuel from their vessels.
Several boats had their fuel pipes cut and at least one vessel had its tank ripped out by the thieves on Thursday night. Boat owner Louise Le Sech (39) called for increased security in the bay, which has been targeted at least four times in the last few years.
Mrs Le Sech, whose boat Margo – named in remembrance of her mother – had up to 100 litres of fuel stolen, said: ‘Things like this keep happening here and it is about time that the States did something about it. It has happened to one of the fisherman three times over the years and it’s just not fair. It’s about time that lights and cameras were installed – just like they are in some of the other bays. Our boat is only one year old and cost us a lot of money. There are too many valuable boats down there not to have security.’
Scenes of crime officers yesterday carried out a forensic examination on a number of vessels which were parked in the boat park.
