Election result ‘good for business’

0595791_2_cropped.jpgJERSEY’S finance industry should be pleased with the recent Senatorial election results, according to a group that promotes the Island as an attractive financial destination.

Jersey Finance chief executive Geoff Cook said that businesses looked for certainty and stability in financial destinations before setting up or investing there. Although he did not say who in particular, Mr Cook said that the six successful Senators-elect had a good understanding of the finance industry so would be able to support Jersey’s economic community.

‘It doesn’t really matter who the individuals are in one sense, it is the fact those individuals have got a good understanding of the finance industry,’ he said. ‘Five of them have been in the States for quite some time now and have an understanding of what needs to happen to maintain a competitive business environment.

‘Having read his manifesto, I think Ian Le Marquand seems to be quite a balanced individual who takes different parties into account and recognises the importance of business to everybody’s lives.’
