Award for boy who saved his brother from choking

AN ELEVEN-year-old boy who saved his little brother from choking has been presented with a prestigious first aid award.

Joshua Zomparelli was given the St John Ambulance Young First Aider Award by Roger Chatterton, the chief commander of the St John Ambulance in the UK, who is visiting the Island this week.

De La Salle College pupil Joshua saved his brother Finlay’s life in May, just a week after learning first aid skills at St John’s Primary School, when he was a pupil there.

Finlay, who was three years old at the time, had been eating grapes when he started to choke on one at the family home in St John. The boys’ mother, Emma, had tried to help before calling Joshua, who came to the rescue and dislodged the grape straight away.
