00596277_cropped.jpgHannah Davies, of Exeter, is researching her Jersey family tree and is hoping our readers can help.

I’m trying to trace descendants and find out about my great uncle James William Davies and his wife Violet Ada Bisson and their family who lived in St Helier Jersey about a hundred years ago,’ she explained.

‘George James Davies and Fanny Clapp had seven children born in south London: George Samuel (born in 1870, my grandfather), Fanny Mary (born 1873), James William (born 1876), Albert Jabez (born 1880), Ernest John (born 1883), Caroline (born 1887) and Alice May (born 1890).’

Hannah knows that as an adult, James Davies moved from London to Jersey and that he worked in a warehouse. He died on 23 Oct 1929, aged 54, of cancer of the tongue.

He had two daughters: Violet Irene and Lillian Beatrice, who lived at 36 Belmont Road, St Helier.

His wife Violet Ada (Bisson)’s left her property at 41 Oxford Road, St Helier, to Lillian and her family. Violet had a sister Vera Irene married to Samuel Picot, of 43 Oxford Road.

Hannah continued: ‘Violet Irene Mary Davies married Alfred Payne. I believe she may have died some time after her father’s death and before her mother’s death as she is not mentioned on her mother’s will.

‘Lillian Beatrice Davies married William John Sheather. They lived at 1 Coronation Villas, Oxford Road, St Helier. They had two children: John Brian James and Peggy Irene May. Peggy married David Poole. John went to Australia. He left Southampton in 7 April 1959 on the Fairsea ship under the Assisted Passage Immiragation Scheme and settled in Sydney where he married in 1967.’

It would great to try and contact a surviving relative to find out more about this side of the family. I would love share stories and see photos of these people.

Hannah would be grateful for any information anyone has about her family. ‘It would great to try and contact a surviving relative to find out more about this side of the family. I would love share stories and see photos of these people,’ she says.
