Minister resigns
Tuesday 21st October 2008, 3:00PM BST.
HOME Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard resigned from office this morning over an ‘issue of moral conscience and principle’.
She cited her ministerial colleagues’ failure to deal with a matter about advising judges over advice to juries on uncorroborated evidence.
The move appeared to take several Members by surprise. Chief Minister Frank Walker told the States that he regretted her decision, and would nominate Assistant Home Affairs Minister Andrew Lewis to replace her tomorrow.
Both Senator Kinnard, pictured, and Deputy Lewis are leaving the States at the end of this session.

Shame she didn’t do it three years ago, and leave the position open for someone who actually cared about the job. This is just political game-playing. All those years of doing practically nothing, and now she’d like to do literally nothing, in her final six weeks. If the law-change was controversial, why push for it at the fag-end of this States session? If not, then, as usual, she’s just inventing the moral dilemma.
