ST PAUL’S won the Charity Cup for the second time in four years last night following an thrilling 11-10 sudden-death penalty shoot-out victory against Trinity F&SC at Springfield.
With both teams having missed two kicks after everyone had taken one, James Hayward had his second kick saved by stand-in goalkeeper David Alexander to win the match for St Paul’s.
A total of 26 kicks were taken and the majority were well executed. Trinity’s Stephen Wilkinson was the first to miss when he struck the crossbar and then Luke Watson had the chance to win the match but his effort was saved by Trinity’s Jimmy Styles.
Trinity’s Dave Lloyd also had a chance to win the game after Luke McGlone had his kick saved by Styles, but Lloyd was denied by Alexander who dived low to his right.
