They are due to depart from Gran Canaria on Sunday 23 November, along with 225 other yachts aboard their boat Skye Lark. The trip is approximately 2,700 nautical miles and should take them around 17 days.
‘We have spent the last four years on sailing holidays around the Mediterranean and felt that we were up for a bigger challenge,’ said Sarah. ‘It is really good to stretch yourself.’

Although it will be an adventure of a lifetime, the race is also a chance to raise money for charity. All sponsorship money will be handed over to support a scholarship at Atlantic College, the first United World College in South Wales. Jill went to the college from 1979 to 81 and is now the vice-chairman of the board.
