Tae Kwon Do duo beat top Irish kickboxers
Friday 24th October 2008, 2:59PM BST.
TWO of Jersey’s most accomplished students in the art of Tae Kwon Do have fought – and beaten – some of the best kickboxers in Ireland.
Monika Markowska and Peter Penttila were selected to represent the Action International Martial Arts Association (AIMAA) team in Dublin last weekend, with 24 other fighters from across Ireland and the UK.
At Dublin’s Crumlin Boxing Club, the squad were pitched against some of the very best kickboxers in the country.
Markowska, who recently won a gold medal at the Irish National Championships, battled two tough rounds with a member of Ireland’s national kickboxing team and won a close decision. Penttila was matched with a heavier opponent, yet showed experience and technical ability to easily outclass him. Each fight was contested over two-two minute rounds and judged by WAKO, Global Kickboxing and AIMAA officials.
