The former Jersey Youth and Les Quennevais rugby player, who is a student at the University of Wales in Cardiff, was encouraged to try out for the national squad by coaches at his club team, the Cardiff Double Blues, and is now working towards selection for the Great Britain team.

On Saturday Carpenter, pictured, scored nine points towards England’s 79-49 defeat which saw visiting side Wales take the advantage in their pursuit of the Dragon Cup, which is played over two legs and won on aggregate.
