Weighty business for Barrett

00597412_cropped.jpgRYAN BARRETT, the Londoner hoping to wrest the English super featherweight title from Bradford’s Femi Fehintola in Jersey on Saturday night, is convinced his time has come.

Shrugging off a brief struggle to make the weight yesterday afternoon – a short, but brisk walk and the removal of his shorts putting him inside the limit – the man who has shared ring time Amir Khan said: ‘I’ve not come here to be runner-up. This is the fight I’ve been waiting for – and I’ve been waiting for some time. It’s come now and it’s the right opportunity.

‘Everything has fallen into place and I’m ready to fight. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
‘He’s the champ, but he’s got all his eggs in one basket. But winning this fight will bring massive opportunities for me. I’ve got the experience and I’ve been boxing at a higher level – I’m going to take the title off him.’

The title fight tops a great bill at the Hotel De France, organised by top promoter and Island resident Dennis Hobson, who has long wanted to bring high-quality professional boxing here.
