Staff lose their jobs as four businesses close
Monday 27th October 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
FOUR well-known local businesses closed their doors suddenly at the end of last week.
Horseplay and the Luggage Shop in York Street have shut as a result of parent company 3B Holdings Ltd going into voluntary liquidation. Six jobs have been lost as a result.
Meanwhile, 30 people in Guernsey lost their jobs on Friday when the Wallace Barnaby Group – one of the biggest advertising and marketing firms in the Channel Islands – also went into voluntary liquidation. Two Jersey-based staff employed by the UK-owned advertising and marketing group were due to meet the liquidators today to find out if they would still be in work.
A meeting was being held today to discuss the implications for the Jersey Evening Post Homes and Lifestyle Exhibition, organised by CMA Event Management, a division of Wallace Barnaby. The biennial exhibition is due to start at Fort Regent on 6 November. Two years ago, when it was last held in Jersey, more than 15,000 people attended and over 100 exhibitors displayed their wares.
