Down come petrol and ferry fares

0124991_cropped.jpgTHERE is good news on prices for Islanders. The cost of petrol at the pumps and ferry fares are coming down.

Condor Ferries today announced a reduction in its fuel surcharge for the second time this autumn, while car trader Motor Mall has cut unleaded fuel to 74.9p per litre and diesel to 84.9p per litre. However, to buy at those prices motorists need a Motor Mall discount card which gives ten per cent off normal prices. It is available free of charge to anyone at the Mont à l’Abbé forecourt. At the height of the fuel crisis, unleaded petrol was being sold at more than £1 a litre at many Island forecourts.

Last week Jersey Gas announced that it might be in a position to reduce its charges by Christmas and Motor Mall announced an initial cut in the cost of fuel. It is the first time in 18 months that petrol prices have been as low as this. The last time they were under 75p was in March 2007.

I can’t Belive Condor and Dropped they Prices, its about time. What we need is another Ferry company to the Uk then you will see the Price come down. Competition is what we need. If the price was right more people would go on the Ferry’s, I used to go on the Ferry three to four times a year, now I go only one time every two years , I go by plane, and Hire a car .

    Disappointed In JSY

    Hurrah,
what I save on petrol can pay a miniscule portion of the extra electric bill I will be receiving !

Yes competition on the route would be a great thing. Perhaps someone like HD Ferries, they could come in promise low prices and great service, but then cancel sailings at a whim.

    not the whole story.

Perhaps the passenger ferry prices seem to reflect the cost of oil/fuel etc.. but the Shippers are still putting “fuel surcharges” on all pallets/parcels delivered from portsmouth to Jersey… thats why the public are not seeing prices come down in the shops or supermarkets!!

a mere drop in the ocean why is condor still charging for fuel when it is at its lowest cost yet years ago boat trips to uk was quarter the price of flying and very few people flew ,now its the other way round they certainly have not got our interests at heart over £100 return for foot passenger to weymouth £26 day return from weymouth to jersey or guernsey .we hav,nt even got option to go on day trips to uk as most sailings don,t leave till late after noon or evening bring on more competition i say

why is our government not doing something to regulate this monopoly supplier, as would happen in the UK? We are being conned all right and not just by Condor. Once again we are being left out in the cold by the people we elect to safeguard OUR interests.

    Not sure on this one

Recently I travelled on Condor. At the start of the journey, they announced that they were running low powered because of one of the engines. I mentioned to other passengers about the fuel surcharge £52.50 for two of us and a car, and that maybe this should be reduced accordingly. It then appeared that passengers who’d travelled a week earlier were informed the same thing.
