Prison breaks on the agenda
Thursday 30th October 2008, 3:10PM GMT.
INMATES at Jersey Prison are to play snooker and pool against a strong team of players representing the Jersey Billiards and Snooker Association.
Island cueists Aaron Canavan, Gary Britton, Chris Alexander and Ray Kilmartin, who will be accompanied by referees Gary Truscott and Adrian Murphy and JBSA tournament secretary Robert Sutherland, will play in full dress code against the inmates at La Moye on Saturday 15 November.
Prison officer Alan Pipes said: ‘The idea came from former prison officer Gary Truscott and he and I spoke about it and it has the approval of the Prison governor, the deputy governor and the head of residence. This visit is an incentive for the enhanced prisoners and I’m sure it will be a success.
‘None of the inmates are anywhere near as good as the players coming in so they will be given handicaps. It has been well received inside and I’d like to thank the players coming in for giving up their time.’
