Manor weddings under threat

WEDDING couples looking forward to their big day at St Ouen’s Manor next year could find their dreams shattered as a result of a noise ban at the venue.
On Thursday the JEP revealed that a noise abatement order had been served to stop amplified music being played there. The marquee company responsible for taking bookings for events in the grounds of the historical manor has now said that unless the threat of prosecution is removed, a variety of events, including weddings, could be cancelled next year.
The Health Protection department noise abatement notice was issued following complaints that a neighbour could not hear his television at times. But the Seigneur of St Ouen, Philip Malet de Carteret, is believed to be in the process of appealing against the decision, and the issue could now end up before the Royal Court. The Seigneur was unavailable for comment as he is out of the Island.
A similar notice has been served on Vibert Marquees. The owner of the marquee business, Nigel Vaudin, has condemned Health Protection officers for the way they have dealt with the matter. ‘We take the bookings for events, and at the moment, although we are taking them, we don’t actually know if they can be staged,’ he said.

I don’t think anyone is so concerned about daytime noise, but when they’ve got music blaring late into the night where’s the fairness to neighbours?

Shame this one person who decided to live near the manor didnt do his homework if he wanted no noise at all then he should have moved somewhere with no one around not next to a wonderful manor that has hosted many things over the years and is a fantastics place to have a wedding I just hope that this one sour person enjoys his peace and quiet and hope that the couples that are so looking forward to their special day find somewhere. I hope this one individual is happy with himself for all the worry he has inflicted just so he can listen to his TV in peace. Spoilsport.

Surely some arrangement could be made to make sure that people inconvenienced by these regular events could be compensated in some way – treated to a day out on the date in question or some other form of gift or recompense? It does seem such a shame that so many hundreds of people should have their big days ruined in this way. And anything that gets couch potatoes out and about has got to be good for their health hasn’t it?
