What example does this set?

I TOTALLY agree with Margaret Hacquoil’s letter (JEP, 28 October) about a stepfather who slapped his step-son.

In my opinion this case should never have been brought to court as it will just alienate the family involved. It is a bad enough job being a step-parent without outside influences interfering in their family life and the parents should be allowed to bring up children as they see fit.

A child of 12 knows the difference between right and wrong, and it’s giving him the go ahead to carry on being racist and violent to other children and cause a lot of future problems as he knows he can get away with it. He got a few clips around the ear. What about the victim in all this? I bet she will be more scarred by this attack.

I, too, applaud the father in this case as he was only doing his job of bringing up this child to become a decent citizen and to show respect for others. I dread to think what will happen to future generations as more and more rights are taken away from decent and hard working parents.

I totally agree with what has been expressed, before this child becomes a law to himself, and upsets more fragile children with his nasty comments
