It is time to rethink the Waterfront

From Chris Whitworth
WITH regard to the ongoing Harcourt court cases, is it not time to seriously reconsider what to build on and around the Waterfront?

This whole shambles is getting worse by the day and can hardly be of benefit Jersey’s reputation. Such a huge development with its uncharacteristic grid formation is totally unnecessary when many financial firms have put any thought of expansion firmly on hold. Also, once built, the values of other commercial properties around the town will drop by at least ten per cent – hardly conducive to the local property trust funds.

I suggest that we cut our losses now and rethink on a much smaller scale, which, of course, would benefit our much smaller local building firms, who could be encouraged to build affordable homes for our children.

However, I will not hold my breath, as even though St Helier has found a more favourable and cost effective solution for its rubbish – the unsightly and oversized incinerator is still to be built. And they told us the days of ‘white elephants’ were over.
