Jersey battle to victory over Bournemouth HC
Monday 3rd November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
THE Investec Jersey men’s hockey XI beat Bournemouth HC 3-1 on penalty strokes after a 2-2 draw yesterday, to set up a third round Hockey Association Trophy tie with Horsham.
Goals from Tom Millar and Dan Lundy put the Island squad level with the opposition after normal time, before well-converted strokes from Mark Dicker, Robin Le Quesne and Arnou Helmholt Kneisel clinched a hard-fought victory for the Islanders.
At the Bournemouth Sports Club, Millar opened the scoring early for Jersey, combining with Kneisel on 12 minutes after a Dicker pass and showing great control to flick the ball neatly over the keeper and into the goal.
Bournemouth, however, were no easy opponents – through a match played end-to-end they showed pace and guile in any fast break opportunity and missing some good chances before capitalising on Jersey’s few weaknesses and taking an impressive equaliser from a short corner.
