Body of missing man is found

THE body of a man who disappeared five days ago was found by a search party yesterday on rocks close to St Aubin’s Fort.

Jerry King had not been seen since walking out of his home in the Beaumont area at about 11 pm last Thursday. Dozens of States and honorary police officers, as well as Mr King’s family and friends, spent days searching for the 57-year-old as concerns grew for his welfare.

Yesterday morning police urged Islanders to search their land and outbuildings and asked boat owners to check their vessels for Mr King, who had left his home wearing only a tracksuit and without any shoes.

At about 1.20 pm yesterday a member of one of the search parties consisting of family and friends found Mr King’s body at the rear of the fort, a police spokeswoman said. The Fire and Rescue Service recovered the body using its inshore rescue boat.
