Health Protection ‘only act against the little guy’
Tuesday 4th November 2008, 2:53PM GMT.
AN alleged lack of action by Health Protection officers to tackle major complaints has prompted a St Helier Deputy to propose a review of laws that govern public nuisance.
Election candidate Deputy Paul Le Claire has tabled a proposal to be debated by the States which has been prompted by the priorities given by departmental officials.
He says in his report they have not responded to complaints of major nuisances in urban areas but have acted to serve an abatement notice on St Ouen’s Manor for playing amplified music and disturbing one neighbour.
His proposition asks the States to request that Health Minister Ben Shenton reviews the current provisions of the Statutory Nuisances (Jersey) Law 1999. The St Helier Deputy wants the review to cover the service of abatement notices as they relate to both public and private sector industrial activities; to premises that hold wedding receptions and similar events; and to businesses in close proximity to domestic dwellings.
Deputy Le Claire says that complaints about the sewage plant at Bellozanne have been largely ignored and that he has made representations about the composting site at La Collette where he is pictured.
